Shelby Sentinels Applications Now Available

The applications for the Shelby Sentinel Ambassador program are available, and the deadline to turn them in is Monday, September 19th.  11th grade students from any Shelby County High School are eligible to apply.  Homeschooled students are encouraged to apply, as well.

Here are the FAQs:

  • 11th grade students from all high schools in Shelby County apply for this opportunity through a short essay application. Homeschooled students are encouraged to apply as well.  (Only Shelby County residents are eligible)
  • Students can receive packets from school counselors, history teachers or from the Shelby County Historical Society
  • Packets must be postmarked by Monday, September 19th
  • Representatives from business, education and the historical society will read and choose team members
  • History teacher recommendation required
  • Students volunteer to help with Shelby County Historical Society events (This will allow students to get their required 5 hours of community service)
  • Students will attend 2 Saturday educational/training meetings about the history of Shelby County
  • Students will have the opportunity to compete for a $1000 scholarship
  • To compete for the scholarship, students will attend both trainings, support at least one Shelby County Historical Society event and work together to complete a group project
  • Shelby Sentinels will become automatic members of the Shelby County Historical Society
